The South Korean government has published an estimate that taekwondo is practiced by 70 million people in 190 countries.\u00a0It is now one of only two Asian martial arts (the other being\u00a0judo) that are included in the\u00a0Olympic Games; it became a demonstration event starting with the 1988 games in Seoul, and became an official medal event starting with the 2000 games in Sydney.<\/p>\n
Two of the most popular systems of taekwondo are named solely
\nafter their respective organizations, the World Taekwondo Federation\u00a0(WTF)\u00a0and the International Taekwon-Do Federation (ITF). WTF is the Olympic standard for Tae Kwon Do, and it is this style of sparring which we teach at Chung Do Kwan.<\/p>\n
The styles and competition rules for ITF taekwondo are different from the Olympic standard of WTF taekwondo that we teach and train in. If you have ITF sparring experience we can spend time training you up to the WTF Olypmic standard.<\/p>\n
